Might not be posting (my daily excursions) as often as in the past months, as I am back to working on a new graphic novel - written by Lawrence Rider my long term collaborator. It's great working on a script, as I have to do lots of research and I have a slightly more a structured way of working that sets me on a trail for hours at a time. It's much more like a conventional job in that I can put in a good days work and end up feeling very pleased with myself. I am developing a method too that is just the right balance of freestyle and reference. I loved working on Longship but it was a real learning curve, I had to draw the first section about four times and I ended up editing the whole thing more than once from start to finish - 52 pages of it! This time I have a different method I picked up by reading about Will Eisner's approach; by building a 'dummy' after the thumbnails and before the first sketch you don't have to keep redrawing the sketches and getting tired and annoyed with wasted effort. It's working out really well for me, I feel much more at ease during the creative phase, once I have it how I want it - I can just draw it and know I won't have to do it again and again. I can just draw and enjoy it.
If you missed out on reading Longship due to shipping costs, you can read it online now for a fraction of the cost via DriveThruComics!! A little bird told me you love Wonder Woman,
And the internet tells me Socrates once said "Wonder is the beginning of wisdom". So I drew this for you. Happy 16th Birthday! "Eternal 3am yea? Maybe woo woo but I still love this." This in particular and something completely unrelated.
